With each passing day, we are getting closer to the speculated Google Nexus 6 aka Nexus X launch date, which is said to be in mid-October and to further add fuel to the rumour mills, Google flagship device's snapshots and specifications have started to surface online.
Back in June this year, a senior executive of Nexus 5 maker LG, in an interview with Dutch publication Draad Breuk, for the first time reportedly hinted that the company has not received any official communication from Google regarding the production of Nexus 6, leading many to believe that the flagship smartphone series may have been shelved to focus on its pet-project Android Silver.
However, the Android Silver project was temporarily put on the back-burner, due to the sudden exit of Nikesh Arora in July, who until then was in charge of the above project as well as the head of sales and also who oversaw the company's partnerships with handset makers and wireless carriers, reported The Information, citing credible sources.
[Note: For the uninitiated, project Android Silver is a part of Google's rebranding program for premium Android smartphones, which was supposed to be on par with high-end Apple iPhone series].
Now many reports have established that Google's very own device division – Motorola (soon to be acquired by the Lenovo) has been chosen as the maker of Nexus smartphone edition under the codename Shamu.
To get a better perspective on the rumoured Nexus 6 aka Nexus X, we have sifted through the numerous reports and compiled set of select features and other details related to the expected device's release date and price details.
Nexus 6 aka Nexus X Display Details:
Last month, we saw industry's top titans Samsung and Apple unveiling the flagship phablets Galaxy Note 4 (5.7-inch) and iPhone 6 Plus (5.5-inch).
We now hear that Motorola and Google have much bigger in store for Android fans. It is said that the search engine giant is reportedly prepping a mammoth 5.92-inch Nexus 6 (codenamed Motorola Shamu) with QHD (2560x1440p) display having a staggering pixel density of 498 ppi (pixels per inch)
The leaked image (courtesy, Google9to5) of Nexus 6 seems to look a lot like a stretched version of Moto X (Gen 2.), but we cannot assess the display resolution of the device.
There is no word whether the company plans to release the device with the stylus like S-Pen for Galaxy Note 4, but if Motorola does release it with a companion e-pen, fans will certainly appreciate it.
Nexus 6 aka Nexus X Processor, RAM, and Storage Details:
According to leaked AnTuTu benchmarking results (courtesy, G4Games), the Motorola phone will house a 805 series processor, which can clock a maximum CPU speed close to 2.7GHz. It is aptly backed by sumptuous 3GB RAM, enough to run any high-intensity 3D games with no lag.
Even the sources of 9to5Google have concurred that it will have Qualcomm's chipset paired with 3GB RAM.
Recently, leaked performance test results (courtesy, Geekbench 3 ) of the forthcoming Nexus 6 have shown that it is a true beast in terms of size as well as internal hardware. It has scored a staggering 1,040 points in single-core trial and 3,199 points in multi-core test out-performing Apple iPhone 6 (1630/2998), HTC One M8 (888/2613), Samsung Galaxy S5 (944/2900), LG G3 (950/2545) and other premium smartphones.
Nexus 6 is expected to be made available in two storage variants, most probably - 32GB and 64GB models. However, there is no word on whether the phone would house a micro-SD card slot or not, but it would really cheer fans if Nexus 6 does come with the memory expansion option.
Nexus 6 aka Nexus X Camera Specification Details:
As far as the camera specifications are concerned, the upcoming Google phone will house similar hardware seen in Moto X (Gen 2.). It reportedly comes packed with a 13.0-megapixel main camera with 4K video recording ability and a 2.1-megapixel snapper on the front.
However, there is no word whether Motorola has incorporated a value-added gesture control feature like double wrist-flick camera launch feature as we have seen in Moto X series phone.
Nexus 6 aka Nexus X Mobile Operating System Details:
Google Nexus 6 in all probability will come with the new Android L OS out-of-the-box.
Google has already released the Android L pre-view developer edition to the programmers.
Though the company has not made any slip-up in revealing the official name of the upcoming OS update, the recent tweet by Google team on the 16 birth anniversary of the search engine giant, does give away a hint that the new OS might be called as Lollipop, because the graphic cake gif had no candles, instead it was stacked with Lollipop candies on top. Nexus 6 aka Nexus X Release Date Details:
A few weeks ago, technology blog, Android Authority, citing sources claimed that the search engine giant is expected to unveil the Motorola Nexus 6 and also the rumoured HTC Nexus 9 tablet PC in mid-October (either 15/16 October) and go on sale on 1 November.
Prominent American business media house, The Wall Street Journal, citing their own sources familiar with Google's plans too confirmed that Nexus 6 is indeed slated to release later this month.
Nexus 6 aka Nexus X Price Details:
All previous Nexus smartphones (and also tablets) have been released with competitive price-tags and the new Nexus 6 is also expected to be less compared to rival flagship smartphones in the market.
The Wall Street Journal sources believe that Google is planning to deliver a Nexus 6 on par with iPhone 6 Plus in terms of display quality, but at a lower price range.
The new iPhone 6 Plus (16GB) model, which is slated to release in India next week cost a whopping ₹62,500 (around $1020/€810) without a contract.
"Competing with Apple was probably a significant part of their thinking," WSJ quoted Daniel Matte, a mobile analyst at technology research firm Canalys as saying.
In late August, popular French e-commerce site, Fnac inadvertently (or intentionally?) listed the 32GB and 64GB version of the yet-to-be released Motorola X T1100 aka Nexus 6, revealing the price of the device. The page was taken-down from the website, after it made the headlines in the media.
However, some tech blogs had taken a screenshot of the webpage before it was pulled off.
According to the listing, (courtesy, TK Tech News), Nexus X - 64GB and 32GB smartphone variants are expected to cost - €499.99 (around $700/₹40,000) and €419.99 (around $554/₹33,526) respectively.
