Telugu movie "Gentleman," starring Nani, Surabhi and Niveda Thomas, was premiered in several centres across North America on Thursday night. The movie, which had decent advance booking, started with a bang at the ticket counters. The film has collected over $50,000 at the U.S. box office in the paid preview shows.
Leading Indian film trade analyst Taran Adarsh tweeted: "Telugu film #Gentleman collects $ 71,938 [₹ 48.25 lacs] from Thu previews in USA. @Rentrak"
Nani had earlier grabbed limelight with SS Rajamouli's "Eega," which was a big hit at the U.S box office. The movie got him the much-needed attention and fan following in North America. The films, which were released in the country after "Eega," also became hits at the U.S. box office. "Bhale Bhale Magadivoy" (BBM) and "Krishna Gaadi Veera Prema Gaadha" went on to become blockbusters there.
The success of these films had created a huge demand for the overseas distribution rights of "Gentleman." ATMUS Entertainment and Gaatri Media Group had bagged the overseas distribution rights of "Gentleman" after shelling out a record price. The makers of the film delivered its drives in time to the distributors, who made extensive arrangement for its premieres and advance ticket booking.
"Bhale Bhale Magadivoy" and "Krishna Gaadi Veera Prema Gadha" had collected approximately $70,132 and $41,369, respectively, at the U.S. box office in the premiere shows. As per early estimates, "Gentleman" has beaten the record of both the movies of Nani.
