The Telugu remake of the Mohanlal starrer "Drishyam" is getting ready for its release in July. The film which is named "Drushyam" is directed by actress turned director Sripriya and is in its final stage of post production. The film stars superstar Venkatesh, Meena, Nadia, Baby Esther and Krithika in lead roles.
Venkatesh will play the character played by Mohanlal in "Drishyam." Meena and Baby Esther have retained their characters done by them in Malayalam. Meena will play the role of Venkatesh's wife and Esther as their youngest daughter. Krithika will play the role of elder daughter to Venkatesh and Meena and Nadia Moidu will be the IAS officer which was done by Asha Sharath in the original version.
The Telugu remake is a family thriller and is said to have some changes from its original version. The plot of the film is about a common man who leads a happy family life. Unexpectedly, their life turns upside down after his family commits a crime. The rest of the story revolves around the father's attempts to save his family from the trouble.
"Drishyam" directed by Jeethu Joseph made history in terms of its box office collection. It became the first ever Malayalam film to collect ₹50 crores. It also became the second film to run 100 days in UAE after Titanic, where more than a million Keralites reside. The film got excellent reviews and Joseph was appreciated for the attempt to bring a family thriller in Malayalam, which was almost a new genre for its audience. The film also won many accolades and awards including Kerala State Film Awards, Kerala Film Critics Association Awards, Asianet Film Awards and Vanitha Film Awards.
The Telugu version "Drushyam" is produced by Suresh Productions, Rajkumar Theaters Pvt Ltd and Wide Angle Creations. The film's cast includes Naresh, Ravi Kale, Paruchuri Venkateswara Rao, Sameer, Saptagiri and others. Shot in beautiful locales around Araku Valley, Vijayanagaram, Hyderabad and Kerala, the cinematography is handled by veteran cinematographer S. Gopal Reddy and the music is done by Sharreth.
"Drishyam" is also going to be remade in Tamil which will star Kamal Hassan in it. The film is yet to be named and is expected to start its production by the second half of 2014. The Kannada version of the film starring V. Ravichandran, Navya Nair and Asha Sarath is under production and is named "Drishya."
