Jassi Gill and Sagarika Ghatge's "Dildariyaan" is the latest big money spinner from Punjabi film industry. The movie has done decent collection at the overseas box office in its opening weekend.
"Dildariyaan" released in 11 cinema halls in North America on 9 October and got good opening there. The movie has grossed $17,668 (Rs 11.44 lakh) at the US box office in the first weekend. Its per-screen average stands at $1606 and its performance is better than that of Aishwarya Rai's "Jazbaa", which has grossed $177,310 from 113 screens and its per-screen average stands at $1569.
The Pankaj Batra-directed Punjabi film has done better business "Jazbaa" in a very limited number of cinema halls in Canada. "Dildariyaan" has raked in $18,481 (Rs 11.97 lakh) from two screens at the US box office in the first weekend and its per-screen average is $9240. Whereas, the Aishwarya Rai starrer has collected $55,876 from 19 screens and its average earning per screen is $2940.
"Dildariyaan" has collected 8,738 (Rs 8.67 lakhs) from 8 screens at the UK box office in the first weekend. The movie has grossed 11,726 (Rs 5.09 lakh) from five screens at the New Zealand box office in its opening weekend. The movie has collected approximately Rs 37.17 lakh at the overseas box office in three days.
The Jassi Gill and Sagarika Ghatge starrer has become another big hit Punjabi movie in the international markets after "Sardaar Ji" and "Angrej".
Written by Jagdeep Sidhu, "Dildariyaan" is a romance drama film, which is about a young man, who is desperate to marry a woman, but she only sees him as a friend. Jassi Gill and Sagarika Ghatge have played the lead roles. The movie marks the debut of Sagarika in Punjabi films. Binnu Dhillon, Karamjit Anmol and Guggu Gill are in the supporting cast of the film, which has Jatinder Shah's music.
