The redi-GO, the entry-level model of Japanese carmaker Nissan's low cost brand Datsun in India has gone back to the drawing board. This time around, the goal is to give more power to its engine. Emerging reports indicate that redi-GO will soon come equipped with a larger 1.0-litre engine. And not just the engine, it will also have AMT (automated manual transmission) variant on offer besides the other models currently on sale.
A report of AutocarIndia says that redi-GO is expected to get bigger 1.0 litre engine under the hood in the coming model along with AMT. The model is likely to feature a similar engine to that of Renault's Kwid in its powerful version. That means it will have a 999cc 3-cylinder engine that can churn out 67bhp of power at 5500rpm and 91Nm of torque at 4250rpm. The engine is expected to come with the option of either five-speed manual gear box or AMT. Currently, redi-GO is offered in the country with a 799cc three-cylinder petrol motor that churns out 53bhp and peak torque of 72Nm that is mated to a five-speed manual gearbox. The small car also claims to return a fuel efficiency of 25.17kmpl.
There is no information on the other changes on the model in its new avatar. However, the 1.0 litre and AMT avatars are expected to give the redi-GO a boost in its sales. The redi-GO variants are currently retailed between Rs 2.38 lakh and Rs 3.54 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). In the more powerful avatar, the 1.0-litre variant can be expected to come at Rs 3.85 lakh, while the AMT variant is likely to cost Rs 4 lakh, (all prices ex-showroom Delhi).
The redi-GO was launched in last June. Initially, the car did not do great booking, but the decision by the carmaker to add a Sporty variant did the trick by pushing up its numbers in the domestic market.
