Chelsea are reportedly ready to pay Gareth Bale's £75 million Real Madrid release clause to rope him in their squad in the upcoming summer transfer window. If the Blues successfully wrap up this deal, then it will be the most expensive transfer in the history of English Premier League (EPL), surpassing Angel Di Maria's £59.7 million.
Bale has also been linked to a move to The Old Trafford in a swap deal with Manchester United star shot-stopper David De Gea who has been brilliant in the last couple of seasons and made his way into the Spanish national squad replacing the legendary Iker Casillas. But in this case, Chelsea seems to be the favourites in bringing this Welshman back into the EPL.
On the other hand, Bale stated that he is happy at Real Madrid and expecting to stay put. However, Chelsea is willing to offer him a whopping £2,17,000 a week in order to add him to an already-powerful squad that is likely to win the EPL this season. Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho is looking to shape his side into an untameable one for the next season and is ready to axe the players who have not played up to their respective potentials. Brazilian midfielders Oscar and Ramires are the two players who are most likely to feel the axe during the summer transfer window.
If he agress to this deal, then he would be Chelsea's highest paid footballer ever. Although Bale has not been performing to his potential, it will be interesting to see whether he would agree to a pay cut and return to England.
Meanwhile, Mourinho is also getting ready to launch a bid of £40 million for French defender Raphael Varane as he has worked in close association with him while he was the manager of Real Madrid. He is said to have rated Varane as one of the best defenders in Europe, according to Metro.
