Telugu film "Manam" has managed to remain rock steady on the second day at the Andhra Pradesh box office.
The Akkineni multi starrer had a slow and steady start on the opening day. Positive word of mouth has helped the film sustain its business on Saturday (24 May) and it minted around ₹4 crore share in two days at the AP/Nizam box office.
The film performed better than Rajinikanth's "Vikramasimha", which had a poor start in the state. The family entertainer did well in urban centres, however, its performance was reportedly on the lower side in "C" centres," where only mass films do good business, reported Andhraboxoffice website.
"Manam" opened well not just in Andhra Pradesh, but also in other states. The film took a good opening in Tamil Nadu, despite the release of "Kochadaiiyaan." "Manam" received best ever opening for a Nagarjuna film in the state, according to entertainment industry tracker Sreedhar Pillai.
"#Manam (Telugu) taken a fantastic opening in TN. @iamnagarjuna's best ever opening = Rs 8.60 lakhs from 22 screens (limited shows) on May 23," Pillai tweeted.
The film has also struck gold at the US box office, where Telugu films have a huge market. It took an extraordinary opening in the US by minting $ 95,473 from Thursday previews, $196,608 on Friday and $260,327 on Saturday.
"Telugu film #Manam – USA: Thu pre $ 95,473, Fri $ 213,511, Sat $ 260,327. Total: $ 569,311 [Rs 3.33 cr]. Many screens yet to report. FAB!" film critic and trade analyst Taran Adarsh tweeted.
The film is likely to continue its good run at the box office on Sunday and it is expected to post a decent total in its opening weekend.
Directed by Vikram Kumar, "Manam" deals with the theme of love that spans 100 years. For the first time, the film brings together three-generation actors of the Akkineni family – Nageswara Rao (ANR), Nagarjuna, Naga Chaitanya and Akhil. Nagarjuna-Amala's son made his debut by playing a small cameo in the romantic family drama.
"Manam" received fantastic reviews from critics as well as from the audience calling the film as a fitting tribute to the legendary ANR, who passed away in January this year. Director Vikram Kumar's story and execution, performances of the lead actors and Anup Ruben's music have won accolades from the critics.
