Dhanush's 25th film "Velai Illa Pattathari" (VIP) has taken a fantastic opening in India, as well as in overseas box office.
"VIP" has given Dhanush his best ever opening. The romantic action entertainer has minted ₹4.36 crore on its opening day at the Tamil Nadu box office.
"#Velaiillapattadhari is @dhanushkraja's best ever opener. Nets (no entertainment tax) Rs 4.36 Cr on day 1 in TN," entertainment industry tracker Sreedhar Pillai tweeted.
Dhanush thanked his fans for giving the biggest opening of his career.

The film, which hit the screens on 18 July, received positive reviews from critics. Dhanush fans have also given big thumbs up for the film, which is evident from its collections.
"VIP" has also opened to grand response in key overseas markets including the US, the UK and Australia. The film has minted over $100,000 at the US box office and is reportedly the first Dhanush film to achieve this feat.

It has entered the list of top five biggest grossers (Tamil films) at the US box office in 2014. The list has the films such as "Kochadaiiyaan" ($633,000), "Jilla" ($228,000), "Veeram" ($243,000) and "Maan Karate" ($72,000), reported Behindwoods.
The Dhanush starrer has earned over ₹24 lakh in two days at the UK box office, while the film minted ₹18.87 lakh in Australia, according to film critic and trade analyst Taran Adarsh.
"Tamil film #VellaiIllaPattathari - UK: Fri £ 9,707, Sat £ 13,612. Total: £ 23,319 [Rs 24.08 lacs]," Adarsh tweeted. "Tamil film #VellaiIllaPattathari - Australia: Fri A$ 13,288, Sat A$ 19,962. Total: A$ 33,250 [Rs 18.87 lacs]," he said.
The movie is expected to continue its good run and end the opening weekend on a fantastic note.
Directed by cinematographer-turned-director Velraj, the film has Amala Paul, Vivek, Samuthirakani and Saranya Ponvannan in supporting roles.
The film's music, composed by Anirudh, is one of the major highlights of the romantic action entertainer. The Velraj directorial is produced by Dhanush under his Wunderbar Films banner.
