"Yevadu" has reportedly earned $329,000 (gross) at the US box office as of 20 January. The film's collections are much lower than Mahesh Babu's "1 Nenokkadine" which surpassed the $1 million mark in the country.
This is Mahesh Babu's third film to have achieved the feat. In the past, the actor's "Seethamma Vakitlo Sirimalle Chettu" and "Dookudu" have crossed the $1 million mark. Mahesh once again proved that he is the undisputable king of box office in the US.
However, "1 Nenokkadine" is not faring well in Andhra Pradesh. The film, which is different from the regular commercial entertainers, won critical acclaim. But, the Mahesh starrer was not able to turn that into numbers. The film's collections have been lower than expected and reportedly earned over ₹12 crore (share) in its first week at the Andhra Pradesh box office.
The business of "1 Nenokkadine" is more or less closed in areas except Nizam,Guntur and Vizag, according to AndhraBoxOffice website.
On the other hand, "Yevadu" has become a money spinner in the state with the film raking in more than ₹40 crore share in 9 days. This is Ram Charan's fourth film to have crossed the ₹40 crore mark after "Magadheera", "Racha" and "Naayak."
Sankranti holidays seem to be the lucky period for the actor as his films are achieving commercial success. Last year, Mahesh Babu's "SVSC" and "Naayak" clashed at the box office during the Sankranti period. Both the films turned out to be big hits.
This year, the two big stars battled it out once again during the Sankranti festival period. Ram Charan's "Yevadu" has emerged as the winner of the two films, though it is a typical revenge drama with regular commercial elements.
Buzz is that Ram Charan's next film with Krishna Vasmi might release for 2015 Sankranti. The film, deemed as a family entertainer, is expected to go on floors soon. Gulte reveals that the makers are planning to release the untitled flick during next Sankranti, but there is no confirmation on the same.
