Parineeti Chopra-Aditya Roy Kapur's "Daawat-E-Ishq" has out-performed Sonam Kapoor-Fawad Khan's "Khoobsurat" at the Indian box office.
Both the films took off on average note on the first day of their release. However, "Daawat-E-Ishq" had managed to perform better than "Khoobsurat."
The Parineeti starrer minted approximately ₹3.75 crore on the opening day. But, it showed some growth on the second day and earned ₹4.25 crore on Saturday. The film's two-day collections amount to ₹8 crore at the domestic box office, according to Koimoi.
The comedy drama, directed by Habib Faisal and produced by Yash Raj Films, had received average reviews from the critics. Despite having a huge release, the film did average business on the first day.
Although the film has picked up on Saturday, it remains to be seen whether the Parineeti starrer will be able to sustain its momentum at the box office. Word of mouth is expected to play a major role in the film's performance. If the film manages to pull in crowds to theatres on Sunday, it is likely to end the opening weekend on a decent note.
On the other hand, Sonam's "Khoobsurat" also did witnesses some growth in its collections. The film had minted ₹2.75 crore and ₹3.74 crore on the first and second day at the box office, respectively. "Khoobsurat's two-day collections stand at ₹6.49 crore at the Indian box office, according to Koimoi.
"Khoobsurat", deemed as a romantic comedy entertainer, is directed by Shashanka Ghosh. It is loosely based on the 1980 film of the same name, which had Rekha and Rakesh Roshan in lead roles.
The Sonam starrer opened to mixed reviews from the critics. The film, which released in more than 1,000 screens, took an average opening. It has failed to beat "Daawar-E-Ishq" two-day collections at the Indian box office. One needs to wait and see how the romantic entertainer performs in the coming days.
Both "Khoobsurat" and "Dawat-E-Ishq" will be having a few days time (until Friday) to earn some decent collections. Although there are no big releases on 26 September, a string of flicks are hitting the screens on the same day. The release of so many films is expected to reduce the screen count for the Parineeti and Sonam starrers. It might affect the films' business prospects in its second week.
