Latest Tamil movie "Kadhalum Kadanthu Pogum" has got a flying start at the box office. It has minted Rs 7.45 crore in the opening weekend, which is a huge number for a Vijay Sethupathi-starrer.
Journalist Sreedhar Pillai announced the news and tweeted, "Sreedhar Pillai tweeted: #KadhalumKadanthuPogum Rs 7.45 Cr in opening weekend (Mar 11-13) in TN from 327 screens. Excellent. #VijaySethupathi's best ever opening. (sic)"
He adds, "#KaKaKaPo breaks the Ides of March symptom. Normally No hero film is released in March due 2 exam season. Now broken by success of KKP. (sic) " The positive word-of-mouth backed by good marketing has helped the movie make such an impressive collection at the box office, say trade experts.
In Chennai, "Kadhalum Kadanthu Pogum" has collected Rs 1.17 crore from 264 shows, reports Behindwoods. The movie is likely to do well in the coming days, given the unanimous positive reviews.
Vijay Anthony's previous-week release "Pichaikaaran" did well this weekend by raking in Rs 42.38 lakh from 180 shows to take its 10-day total tally to Rs 1.74 crore in Chennai. Another new release "Mapla Singam" earned Rs 15.21 lakh from 69 shows in the first weekend. It is considered as a decent business for a Vimal-starrer film.
Karthik Subbaraj's experimental "Aviyal" collected Rs 6.86 lakh from 42 shows in Chennai.
However, Vijay Sethupathi's last-month release "Sethupathi" had a decent number of shows from which it grossed Rs 4.05 lakh. The total collection of the Tamil movie in Chennai stands at Rs 2.08 crore.
Jiiva and Hansika Motwani's "Pokkiri Raja" has earned Rs 1.94 lakh from 21 shows to take its total tally to Rs 67.53 lakh. The performance of the film has disappointed the industry as people had high hopes from the flick.
Atharvaa-starrer "Kanithan" collected Rs 1.63 lakh and the total collection of the movie in Chennai stands at Rs 1.25 crore.
