Aishwarya Rai Bachchan's latest film "Sarbjit" has shattered the records of her last film "Jazbaa" at the box office. "Sarbjit" took 10 days to break the lifetime box office collection record of "Jazbaa" in India.
The biographical drama, directed by Omung Kumar, had a slow start and it continued its slow run in India in its first week. Trade analysts expected that the new releases would affect the box office collection of "Sarbjit" in its second week, but instead the film dominated the box office.
"Sarbjit" minted Rs. 4.58 crore in its second weekend, which took its 10-day collection record to Rs. 26.67 crore. The film broke "Jazbaa" Rs. 25.23 crore collection record.
"#Sarbjit [Week 2] Fri 1.10 cr, Sat 1.45 cr, Sun 2.03 cr. Total: ₹ 26.67 cr. India biz," trade analyst Taran Adarsh tweeted.
The Aishwarya-starrer has turned out to be a successful film at the box office, as the makers have earned the production cost through its box office, satellite and music rights. The film now sails safe and might even make it in the hit film list of 2016. To celebrate the success of the film, the makers organised a party for the cast and crew. Aishwarya, Randeep Hooda, Richa Chadha and others were seen in attendance at the success bash.
Omung's directorial "Sarbjit," is a biographical drama based on the life of Indian farmer Sarabjit Singh, who was convicted of terrorism by a Pakistani court. The film shows the struggle of Sarabjit, his sister Dalbir Kaur, who fought relentlessly for his release, and his family.
Aishwarya plays the role of Dalbir, Randeep portrays the character of Sarabjit, while Richa plays the role of his wife. The film also features Darshan Kumar in a pivotal role.
