This year had been pretty bad for Mahesh Babu (in terms of box office) as both his films "1 Nenokkadine" (Sankranti 2014 release) and "Aagadu" (19 September release) have turned out to be box office duds.

"1 Nenokkadine" received decent reviews from the critics, but the film failed to impress the audience as it lacked the entertainment quotient. On the other hand, "Aagadu" was a complete action comedy entertainer with all the commercial elements. However, the film received average reviews with the critics and the audience citing that it did not offer anything new and was a rehash of director Srinu Vaitla's past releases.

"Aagadu" kicked off on a fantastic note on the first day by minting over ₹9 crore share at the AP/Nizam box office. However, the film's collections dropped consistently from the second day and continued to register poor figures during the weekdays. With back-to-back new releases like "Loukyam" and "Govindudu Andarivadele," "Aagadu" could not sustain its business.

However, the action entertainer has done fantastic business in the US. The film minted over $1 million in within three days, thus becoming Mahesh's fourth film to achieve the feat after "Dookudu", "Seethamma Vakitlo Sirimalle Chettu" and "1 Nenokkadine." With "Aagadu" faring well in the US, the actor has once again proved that he is the Telugu box office king in the country.

Meanwhile, Mahesh is all set to commence his next project with director Koratala Siva from 9 October. Shruti Haasan will be playing the female lead opposite Mahesh. Jagapathi Babu and Rajendra Prasad are also reportedly part of the film's cast. Produced by Mythri Movies banner, the untitled film is expected to hit the screens by next year.
