Canadian smartphone maker BlackBerry launched two new handsets -- DTEK60 and DTEK50 -- in India on Monday.
BlackBerry's new DTEK50 and DTEK60 are actually the rebranded versions of the company's hardware partner Alcatel Lucent's Idol 4 and Idol 4S series phones. The key difference between the models is that the DTEK series will have BlackBerry's state-of-the-art proprietary DTEK security system.
DTEK security feature intuitively monitors apps and processes in real time to provide an overall security rating for the device. It's "Advanced Tools" also track when the device owner's personal information is accessed, how often and for how long.
That's not all; they also come with "Hardware Root of Trust", which offers security from the start, allowing for the tracking, verification and provisioning of the DTEK60. The BlackBerry device also boasts secured boot process, wherein each stage of device's secure boot chain will first verify that the next component is fully intact before proceeding, ensuring the device has not been tampered with since the last restart.
In addition to that, it provides another layer of protection by improving Android's native Address Space Layout Randomization to reduce the number of system applications and services running with elevated permissions. This makes it more difficult for attackers to compromise the OS, BlackBerry claims.
The phones also boast customizable BlackBerry Convenience Key. Located on the right side of the phone, a single press of this button provides users with quick access to the most-used application, task, or whatever the user choose to program.
