The historical Bollywood film "Bhopal: A Prayer for Rain", released on 5 December 2014 in India, has opened to positive reviews.
The Ravi Kumar directorial stars Martin Sheen, Mischa Barton, Kal Penn, Rajpal Yadav, Tannishtha Chatterjee and Fagun Thakrar among others in the lead roles.
The film, based on the Bhopal Gas Tragedy, which occurred 30 years ago on 2-3 December 1984, has been made tax-free in Madhya Pradesh.
A special premiere was arranged on Thursday in Bhopal, which was attended by Rajpal Yadav, Manoj Joshi, Ila Arun, Kal Penn, Riteish Deshmukh, Nagesh Kukunoor, Sangram Singh, Payal Rohatgi, Parvin Dabas, Preeti Jhangiani, Neelima Azeem, Ishaan Khattar, Vivek Vaswani and Dino Morea among others.
Meanwhile, the film is told from the perspective of Dilip (Rajpal Yadav), a rickshaw driver, who finds a job at the Union Carbide plant in Bhopal. Though he notices the negligence of the authorities regarding the safety measures in the factory, he remains silent as he is in need of a job and is the sole breadwinner of his family.
However, due to the leakage of methyl isocyanide, more than one lakh people are still suffering in Bhopal and even after three decades, children are born with brain disorders, twisted limbs and many other disabilities.
