Ravi Teja's "Bengal Tiger" has got a good opening at the US box office, but it failed to shatter the opening weekend collection records of his previous movies like "Power" and "Kick 2".
The pre-release hype created a great demand for the theatrical rights of "Bengal Tiger" and several leading distribution houses were in the race for the rights. Supreme Movies LLC acquired its overseas distribution rights for a record price and released the film in 100+ cinema halls in North America.
"Bengal Tiger" received fantastic response in the paid preview shows on Wednesday night, but its business dipped on its opening day. The movie showed a huge leap on Friday. On Saturday, Bollywood trade analyst Taran Adarsh â€tweeted, "Telugu film #BengalTiger - USA: Wed $ 41,229, Thu $ 36,556, Fri $ 66,729. Total: $ 144,514 [₹ 97.04 lacs]. @RentrakIndia."
The Ravi Teja, Tamannaah Bhatia and Raashi Khanna starrer went on strength to strength on Saturday and Sunday and raked in $145,486. "Bengal Tiger" has grossed approximately $290,000 (Rs 1.94 crore) at the US box office in its four-day extended first weekend. The movie has fetched more than Rs 1 crore its distributors, who are all thrilled over its performances.
Ravi Teja's "Power", which was released in 85 screens in America on 11 September, 2014, has collected $334,861 at the US box office in its first weekend. It is the biggest opener and highest grosser in the opening weekend for the Mass Maharaja. His next release "Kick 2" failed to beat this record as it collected $307,195 at the US box office in its opening weekend.
The screen count of "Bengal Tiger" is equal to that of both "Kick 2" and "Power". It had four-day extended first weekend. Hence, the trade experts in T-Town had predicted that the movie would beat their records and become the biggest opener for Ravi Teja. But, the film has failed to break those records in the US market.
