In a shocking incident, a tribal woman was beheaded for allegedly stealing a chicken at Barghuli in Assam's Sonitpur district on Monday.
The victim, identified as Phaguni Kawari (50), and her family were reportedly having a rift with Rafel Siren, Antoni Topno, Sanjay Siren and Rate Topno for the alleged theft of the chicken, reports said.
The four accused entered the woman's house on Monday and attacked her and her husband after a short argument, reports said. While, the husband managed to escape with injuries, they got hold of the lady and allegedly beheaded her.
"We have arrested four persons in connection with the incident and retrieved the machete, which was used to behead the woman. The accused committed the murder in an inebriated state," The New Indian Express quoted Sonitpur SP Sanjukta Parasar as saying.
The victim also had a son, a daily wage earner, and a daughter-in-law. While, the daughter-in-law managed to escape from the attackers, the victim's son was not at home at the time of the incident.
