Months prior to the Nokia's scheduled conference at the MWC (Mobile World Congress) 2014, there were rumors that the Finnish handset maker would unveil a single Android smartphone Nokia X. The firm has in fact launched two more X series Android based devices X+ and XL on Monday (24 February) at the Barcelona event.

Commenting on the launch of Nokia X series smartphones, the executive vice president of Nokia's Devices & Services, Stephen Elop said: "Nokia has connected billions of people around the world, and today we demonstrated how our portfolio is designed to connect the next billion people to great experiences."

"Our deliberate approach is to offer four tiers of products including our affordable entry-level devices like the new Nokia 220; our entry-level Asha touch phones like the new Nokia Asha 230; our new Nokia X, Nokia X+ and Nokia XL smartphones primarily for growth economies; and our Lumia portfolio, where we introduce the greatest innovation and provide full compatibility with the Microsoft experience," he added.

First up, Nokia X sports a 4.0-inch WVGA (800x480p) IPS LCD screen with pixel density of 233 ppi (pixels per inch) and as reported earlier, the phone runs on AOSP (Android Open Source Project) OS version. It has been titled as Nokia X Software v1.0.

Nokia X packs 1GHz Snapdragon S4 dual-core CPU, 512MB RAM, 3.0- megapixel camera (no flash) and 1500 mAh battery.

On the other hand, Nokia X+ houses pretty much the same specifications seen inside the Nokia X, sans a bump in RAM capacity. It packs 768 MB physical memory.

Most expensive among the devices, Nokia XL flaunts a bigger 5.0-inch WVGA (800x480p) IPS LCD display and runs on same Nokia X Software v1.0 powered by 1GHZ dual-core Snapdragon S4 chipset with 768 MM RAM and 4GB inbuilt storage (expandable up to 32GB).

Other enhanced features include 5.0- megapixel main camera with LED flash, 2.0- megapixel HD wide-angle snapper on the front and 2000 mAh battery capable of running smartphone for 30 days under standby mode.
