The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is leaving no stone unturned to irk Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) for snatching away its '4 out of 5 states are ours' dream during the assembly elections in Delhi, Mizoram, Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh and Madhya Pradesh.
On Tuesday, the nationalist party turned down the post for a temporary or pro term speaker, leaving the AAP to fill the seat.
"Why can't the BJP and Congress even take up a small responsibility like appointing a pro-tem Speaker? Now the Speaker will be from AAP, we will announce the name by this evening," an irritated AAP leader Sanjay Singh reacted to the news while talking to ANI.
The news broke just 48 hours before newly appointed Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal, who has been unwell and skipped his office since past two days, has to prove his majority in the Vidhan Sabha.
The Kejriwal-led AAP made a stunning debut in the Delhi assembly polls by winning 28 out of a total of 70 seats. Since BJP is the largest party in the seventh assembly, Lieutenant Governor Najeeb Jung appointed its senior leader Jagdish Mukhi as the pro-tem Speaker, but the nomination was turned down by the party.
A temporary speaker is responsible for swearing-in the newly elected legislators and conduct proceedings in the house till a speaker and deputy speaker is elected.
