The teaser of Rajinikanth's most-awaited film has been released on the auspicious festival day of Ganesh Chaturthi (9 September), as a special treat to superstar's fans.
Director Soundarya Rajini posted a message on twitter saying, ":):) This is it!!! Happy vinayakar chaturti .. .. . Here's presenting to you the teaser of @Kochadaiiyaan." [To watch video, click here]
The 1 min 15 second teaser begins with a message, "There are heroes and superheroes. But there is only one Rajinikanth." The video shows a younger superstar as a warrior in a battlefield. The teaser also shows Rajinikanth walking in his trademark style, with hundreds of dancers behind him dressed like soldiers.
"Kochadaiyyan" is India's first 3D film made using motion capturing techniques in the likes of Hollywood films "Avatar" and "Tin Tin." The film is an epic drama but nothing short of being a commercial entertainer, according to Soundarya.
"It will be a full-fledged commercial entertainer; nothing arty about this period film," Soundarya Rajinikanth Ashwin said in an exclusive interview to The Hindu. "It's sad that when you say animation, people think of cartoons."
Soundarya also revealed to the news daily that they have brought back late actor Nagesh to the screen using high resolution images of the veteran and creating a 3D model.
"Kochadaiiyaan" has Rajini playing a dual role - as a father and a son. The rest of the cast includes Deepika Padukone, Sarath Kumar, Shobhana, Jackie Shroff, Nasser, Aadhi and Rukmini.
The film's music is composed by Oscar winner AR Rahman. A single composed by the talented music composer will be released this month and the "Kochadaiiyaan" team is planning the audio release in October, around Navarathiri festival season. The film is produced by Sunil Lulla, Sunanda Murali Manohar & Dr. Murali Manohar.
The first look posters of "Kochadaiiyaan" have already generated a lot of buzz among the audience. Fans are waiting to see their superstar on screen after a span of three years when his last film "Endhiran" ("Robot") was released.
Rajini was expected to star in director KS Ravikumar's "Rana" after "Endhiran", but the superstar was hospitalized due to health concerns. As a result, "Rana" was stalled indefinitely. Later, when Rajini's health condition improved, he began working in his daughter's directorial debut - "Kochadaiiyaan", which is a prequel to "Rana."
"Kochadaiiyaan" has been in the making for more than a year. The Rajini-starrer, which has a runtime of 2 hrs and 4mins, will hit the screens by the end of this year. The film will be releasing simultaneously in three versions - Tamil ("Kochadaiiyaan"), Telugu ("Vikramasimha") and Hindi. It will also have English and Japanese versions, as Rajini has a huge fan following in Japan.
