Saif Ali Khan's action-thriller "Race 2" has finally grossed ₹100 crore, becoming the first movie of the year to touch that mark.
"And #Race2 hits a ton. Crosses ₹100 cr mark in India," trade analyst and film critics Taran Adarsh tweeted on Friday.
This is Saif Ali Khan and John Abraham's first movie that has surpassed the ₹100 crore mark in India. Last week, six new movies hit the theaters, but "Race 2" had the highest audience count.
The film raked in approximately ₹24 crore in its second week and maintained a steady pace during weekdays despite new releases. "Race 2" in its first week collected ₹76.1 crore and in its second week it minted approximately ₹24 crore.
The collection declined by 50 to 60 percent in the second week, but it was still better than other new releases.
At the worldwide box office, the film made ₹100 crore in just seven days of its release. The second installment film of 2008 movie "Race" earned approximately ₹22 crore in its first week overseas.
Saif and Anil Kapoor are the only returning cast members from the first film, whereas other actors like John, Deepika Padukone, Jacqueline Fernandez and Ameesha Patel are new to the franchise.
