Mumbai based electronic manufacturer Wishtel is all set to unveil its new range of computing devices, tablets and netbooks based on the Linux-based platform PrithV in December.
"Our objective as a technology and manufacturing company is to create affordable range of products that can contribute to society by extending education for free and without boundaries," Wishtel CEO Milind Shah said in a statement, according to Press Trust of India.
The soon-to-be-launched devices will be powered by PrithV, a Linux-based platform developed by the firm in collaboration with the Homi Bhabha Centre for Science Education. The company claimed that the new platform supports 85 global languages like English, Spanish, French, German, Arabic, Urdu, and Zulu including 23 Indian languages.
The PrithV comes preloaded with educational software packages which will enhance the self learning experience of students across different sections like pre-primary, tertiary and higher education. According to reports, the platform comes loaded with software for languages, science: physics, chemistry, biology, astronomy, geography, math: algebra, calculus, geometry, medicine, economics and computing.
"We intend to offer our solutions to universities and schools worldwide and empower every student with a PC enabling them to learn and educate themselves beyond textbooks, access and create their own knowledge," Shah said.
The tablet PC will be launched for a price of $50, pointing out the company may be planning to join India's budget tablet market. The netbooks will be available for $120. Wishtel earlier said that it will increase the production capacity of its two plants in Maharashtra and Gujarat. The company is also aiming to secure a contract for the development of Aakash tablet which they lost in the first round against Datawind.
"It will participate in the bidding for second round when the government floats a tender," Shah said.
