"Thuppakki" is not only turning out to be the biggest hit of 2012 in Kollywood but is also Vijay's biggest grossing film ever with collections over ₹100 crore from Tamil box office alone, since its release on November 13.
Directed by A.R. Murugadoss, "Thuppakki" was released in over 2,000 screens worldwide on Tuesday (Diwali) along with another Tamil film titled, "Podaa Podi," starring Silambarasan and Varalaxmi Sarathkumar.
"Yes bullets, it is now officially confirmed that #Thuppakki has crossed the 100cr mark! It is only the second Tamil film ever to do so!" tweeted Thuppakki - The Film.
"Tamil film #Thuppakki *total after 2nd Weekend* UK £ 188,838 [Rs 1.68 cr], USA+Canada $ 452,734 [Rs 2.51 cr], Aus A$ 80,264 [Rs 46.73 lacs]" tweeted trade analyst and film critic Taran Adarsh.
"The film collected Rs 65.32 crore worldwide in the first week. In Tamil Nadu, Thuppakki raked in Rs 40 crore and above in the first six days and it continues to run to packed houses. It is also doing good business in neighbouring states such as Kerala and Andhra Pradesh," IANS had earlier quoted trade analyst Trinath saying.
"Thuppakki," featuring Vijay and Kajal Aggarwal in lead roles, produced by Kalaipuli S. Dhanu and directed by A.R. Murugadoss, had a great opening, collecting ₹9.25 crore on the first day, ₹8.10 crore and ₹4.80 crore on the second and third days respectively.
