Many critics have even ranked Galaxy S3 above Apple's iPhone 4S. Apple has had a stranglehold in the smartphone market over the years with its iPhone models. Operating Software: Samsung Galaxy S3's latest Android 4.0 version is affectionately called as the Ice Cream Sandwich (ICS). Ever since the release of ICS, it has become the preference of most of the mobile phone users, given the numerous features- S3 enables easy multitasking, rich notifications, customizable home screens, resizable widgets, deep interactivity and adds powerful new ways of communicating and sharing. The tech experts, meanwhile, perceive that Android is the mobile platform of the future.
iPhone 4S runs on Apple's iOS 5 software and can be updated to latest iOS 6 once it is released for users. iOS 6 has been packed with over 200 new features, including Apple-developed navigation maps as it has dumped Google's maps. The new Apple Maps promises turn-by-turn guidance to the users.
iOS 6 comes with developed Siri support, deep Facebook integration, Shared Photo Streams and the innovative new Passbook app.
Processors and Memory: The Galaxy S3 is powered-by the Samsung 1.4 GHz Quad-core Exynos 4212 processor and has 1GB RAM. Galaxy S3 comes with three variants - 6/ 32/64 GB of internal storage capacity- which is expandable via MicroSD card upto 32 GB.
Galaxy S3's 16 GB variant is currently available in India and we could expect the 32 GB in the coming days. However, 64 GB is very unlikely to be available here.
iPhone 4S is powered-by 1 GHz dual-core processor and has 1GB RAM onboard. Like Galaxy S3, it also comes with three variants - 16/ 32/64 GB of internal storage - but doesn't support external microSD card.
Display: Galaxy S3 has a huge screen, that sports Super AMOLED capacitive full touchscreen, 16M colors, 720 x 1280 pixels, 4.8 inches (306 ppi pixel density), multitouch, Corning Gorilla Glass 2, TouchWiz UI v4.
In contrast, the iPhone 4S is packed with a 3.5-inch TFT Retina multi-touch display, with 960 x 640 resolutions at 330 ppi pixel density.
Camera: The iPhone 4S features a primary 8-megapixel camera with 3264×2448 pixels, autofocus, LED flash and has a VGA front facing camera for video calling.
Galaxy S3 boasts 8-megapixel camera with 3264x2448 pixels, autofocus, LED flash, HD video and image recording, geo-tagging, touch focus, face and smile detection and image stabilization features to mix. The handset also packs 1.9-megapixel front facing camera for video calling.
Galaxy S3 and iPhone 4S, however, both offers to shoot HD videos of up to 1080p.
Battery: Galaxy S3 has a powerful Li-Ion, 2100mAh battery and promises over 11 hours talk time on 3G networks. In contrast, the iPhone 4S packs a Li-Po 1, 432 mAh battery that offers 8 hours talk time on 3G networks.
