Malayalam-Tamil actor Jayaram, who is celebrating his 49th birthday today (Wednesday), has one more reason to cheer: his son Kalidas' debut film as hero has started rolling. The film titled "Oru Pakka Kathai" is being directed by Balaji Tharaneedran.
Jayaram, his wife Parvathi and daughter joined Kalidas at the shooting location for the celebration; the cast and crew of the film were also there.
The dotting father, who was excited about his son's future, tweeted to his fans about the film and sought everyone's blessings for his son.
"My b'day got even more special. Today Kalidas is starting his career. His film shoot starts today. Need ur blessings", tweeted Jayaram.
"Oru Pakka Kathai" is Tharaneedran's second film as director; the first was "Naduvla Konjam Pakkatha Kaanom" starring Vijay Sethupathi and Gayathrie Shankar. Released in 2012, "Naduvla Konjam Pakkatha Kaanom" is considered as one of the best in the genre of black comedy.
With "Oru Pakka Kathai," Kalidas joins the league of Malayalam star kids like Dulquer Salmaan, Fahadh Faasil and Prithviraj. The young talent proved his talent as a child artist in two Malayalam films "Kochu Kochu Santhoshangal" (2000) and "Ente Veedu Appuvintem" (2003). In both, he acted as son to his own father.
Kalidas played the role of an insecure elder brother 'Vasudev' in the film "Ente Veedu Appuvintem," which is considered one of the most iconic performances in Malayalam cinema. It also won him the National Award for Best Child Artist.
Reports of Kalidas being part of many films started doing the rounds after his mimicry performance in Vijay Television Awards. It was an instant hit online. Not just that, he was rumoured to have been approached by many ace directors, including Shankar, Gautham Menon, Mani Ratnam and Malayalam director Aashiq Abu.
The cinematography of "Oru Pakka Kathai" is done by C Prem Kumar and R Govindraj will edit the film. Both of them were part of Balaji's first film also. The music for the film is done by Govind Menon of Thaikkudam Bridge Band.
The art department will be handled by Vinoth Raj Kumar while Gopi Prasanna of "Kaththi" and "Raja Rani" fame has been roped in as creative designer. The film will be produced by KS Srinivasan for Vasans Visual Ventures.
